The basic difference between Batch Upload and the Multiple-Upload feature (found on the New Document page) is that with the Batch Upload you can control the meta-data for each individual document that is being imported. The Multiple-Upload feature will allow you to create multiple document records all containing the same meta-data that was entered on the New Document page.
If you need to quickly add new documents and you will either adjust the meta-data or want all the meta-data to be identical then the Multiple-Upload tool is the way to go.
If you need to import a lot of documents that must contain their own meta-data then you should be using the Batch Import tool.
